Apr 25, 2017 – Strathroy, marked the 25th Anniversary of the opening of Columbus Estates Not for Profit Housing. Columbus Estates was established with Council 7570, All Saints, Strathroy as the sponsor. The Board hosted an open house to celebrate, inviting former Board members, residents and officials to the Open House. Joanne Vanderheyden , Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc presented Board President, Jerry Vens with a Certificate of Recognition, as did Mike Davis and Tom Tapia from the City of London Housing Division. Elsie Hawkins, a long time resident of Columbus Estates, had the honour of cutting the cake for the celebration.
There are 30 units at Columbus Estates, divided between one and two bedroom units. As well, there are two wheel chair accessible units. Mike Davis stated that he was impressed with the Board’s efforts to keep the housing project in great shape. In the last few years, a new metal roof, upgrades to appliances and walk-in showers have been installed as well as painting and carpeting of the individual units.
Occupancy is full with a lengthy waiting list for area people wanting to reside at Columbus Estates. Zock Property Management provide management guidance and coordinate with the City of London Housing Division on behalf of the Board.
