Sulpician Father Phillip Brown is president and rector of Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, the institution from which Father McGivney completed his studies for the priesthood in 1877. He will share insights about Father McGivney’s life and ministry that inspire young priests and seminarians today and how Saint Mary’s has observed the beatification of its alumnus. His cause for sainthood opened more than a century later, December 18, 1997. Dominican Father Gabriel O’Donnell was the initial postulator of the cause and authored the official position supporting sainthood for Father McGivney. Father O’Donnell, who serves now as a vice postulator and director of the McGivney Guild, will recall his research efforts to introduce the cause and reflect on the October 31, 2020, beatification. These formation years not only prepared him for the priesthood but contributed to his personal and spiritual development as well. Knights of Columbus Supreme Director Dennis Duchesne lives in the region where Father McGivney studied.
