St Joseph Icon Pilgrimage

Financial Secretary Bert Sousa, Treasurer Selwyn Langois and Deacon Terry Osmar greeted parishioners during the event. The Icon visited three Churches on its way around the Councils in District 7 in January.

Submitted by Nicholas QuadriniSt. Mark CouncilSt. Mark Council 10874 was one of the first councils in Ontario to welcome the St. Joseph Pilgrim Icon. The council hosted the icon for one week at St. Mark Parish, culminating in a special evening in honour of St. Joseph. Council members invited parishioners to join them for a special screening of "St. Joseph: Our Spiritual Father", followed by a votive mass in honour of St. Joseph and the Holy Rosary (with reflections from Patris Corde). My family hosted our Family Giving Day in our neighbourhood in Etobicoke and raised $5,000 and 2,000 pounds of food for the North York Harvest Food Bank. *it was our third Family Giving Day since November 2020 - raising $12,000 and 4,000 pounds of food in that time. The Coats were distributed to St. Vincent De Paul Society, Langs Community Centre and Waterloo Region Food 4 Kids. Grand Knight Dan Schmalz delivered the Coats to Food 4 Kids office.

Charity Bottle Drive

Submitted by Bernie MoorcroftSt. Paul the ApostleKnights from St. Paul the Apostle Council 17397 promoted a Charity Bottle Drive to support their charitable causes this year. In October, the council raised over $2250 in a two-day event October 16 and 17th. With support from the parish advertising the event from the pulpit, newsletter and website along with some community signage, the council has secured tremendous support from the congregation and local community. The money raised goes to support St. Vincent dePaul Society, Shifra Homes, Halton Women's Place, Carpenter Hospice and Good Shepherd among others.

Raised funds during Holy Lent to help 52 families with food baskets. They also paid the salaries of the teachers of a special school funded by charity for Iraqi children of families stranded in Jordan awaiting their immigration papers otherwise the special school arrangement was going to stop due to lack of funds. A few of the Brother Knights got together after Mass to display the banner. A good way to start the Pro-Life Week, Sunday, May 9, 2021, with Mother’s Day. With the COVID restrictions in place, we can only have a few Knights wearing Face Masks and keeping their Distances (all have their first Covid Vaccines)
