//JESUS THE KING COUNCIL FIGHTS HUNGER ON CHRISTMAS
Submitted by Brother Hikmat Dandan
Jesus the King

Jesus the king Council 15045 launched a campaign to FIGHT HUNGER ON CHRISTMAS and donated $500 to each one of six food banks: Richmond Hill Food Bank, Knights Table, Daily Bread Food Bank, Covenant House, Scott Mission, & Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

One of the Food Banks says that with their buying power, $100 will give a family of 4 access to food for over a week. $100 will also give an individual client access to meals for more than one month. Also, $1 donated = 1 meal so Jesus the King council has enabled the distribution of 3000 meals to individuals and families during Christmas only. In line with guidance from Supreme & State Council to make an effort to end hunger, Jesus the King has donated during 2023 including the Christmas campaign, the total amount of $8750 which is equivalent to 8750 meals for the hungry.

The Food Banks have been innovative and making it a pleasant rewarding and career experience in fighting hunger. Covenant House Toronto Introduced…Cooking for Life’s holiday cookie collection! All year long, the youth in their Cooking for Life job readiness program learn career and life skills that will help them find and secure solid employment so that homelessness is a brief non-recurring part of their lives. They also learn how to bake delicious treats!

Each Christmas they work hard to make this time of year special for the youth in need by hosting a buffet for them, prepared by their kitchen staff and served by volunteers, who took time out of their own to serve.

Brother Hikmat, the Deputy Grand Knight of Jesus the King council and Director of Christian Refugee Relief, encourages all Ontario councils to donate to these food banks mentioned above and let us LEAVE NO NEIGHBOUR BEHIND.
