Jesus the King Melkite Catholic Church 2023 Summer Festival
“Bringing the heart of the Middle East with good music and great food”. That was the slogan of the Jesus the King Church Summer Festival starting the Friday 4th, 5th,6th August 2023 at the Good Shepherd Chaldean Cathedral in North York. An annual event on the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. The purpose of the Festival is to bring the Melkite, Chaldean, Syriac and other Middle East Christians together with famous tunes and singers from all Middle East cultures, Lebanon, Syria, Holy Land, Iraq, & Egypt. Thanks to OLG, Bingo World + Gaming and The City of Richmond Hill, whose charitable gaming funds enabled Jesus the King Knights of Columbus council to support the event by donating the bright welcoming TEE SHIRT printed by DADS PRINTING with the KOFC crest in the middle, surrounded by a Folkloric male and female Dabkeh dancers (stomping your feet to the beat) and the Arabic welcoming expression, AHLAN WA SAHLAN which literally means you are welcome as one of my family members. There was around 100 volunteers from the community, many of them Knights and their ladies. The children and youth Ministry IMAC also helped. All the church ladies helped in preparing and serving the delicious chicken Shawarma, Falafel with tehineh sesame oil sauce, manakish zaatar ie thyme pizza, and sweet delicacies as baklawa, and hot knafe. There was free face painting for the kids, and a Backgammon tournament that was won by the parish pastor Monsignor Makarios who always got the right numbers with his dice. Few after the appetizing meals indulged in the hubble bubble. Jesus the King Church Festival received the 2019 Best Over All Ontario Community Award.
