Beginning on Ash Wednesday and running through Lent, parishioners were asked to join the Knights of Granottier Council 2092 and Assembly 3432 in donating food items or cash for each day of Lent. With the cooperation of local Catholc Schools a total of 5 080 pounds of food was gathered for the Catholic Charities food bank in Owen Sound. This food will be shared with area food banks in Meaford, Wiarton and Neyaaashiniimiig FN. And used to meet the emergency food needs od parishioners and people approaching the Church office for help.
In addition to this $5 024 was raised which will be shared with OShare a community food kitchen ($2 000) Safe n Sound – emergency housing provider ($1000) , the food banks at Wiarton, Meaford & at St. Marys Church ($ 500) and foodbanks in Chatsworth and Neyaashiniimiing ($ 250).
Brothers and Sir Knights spent in excess of 125 man hours on these projects moving donated food, sorting, storing etc and tablutating, recording and managing donations. All donations are receipted for tax purposes through the KofC Charitable Trust in Owen Sound.
