CWL Ministry recently conducted their Out of the Cold Donation Drive project asking for various household essentials and hygiene products for the poor people in our community. We also purchased one box of adult coats. On November 22nd, GK Dave Algudady and Treasurer Dan Dumouchelle delivered one box of coats to each H.J. Lassaline and L.A. Desmarais Elementary Schools. We also delivered the one box of adult size coats to our local Unemployment Help Center.

The Knights collected a total of 26 bags of new and gently used winter coats, of which approx. 18-20 winter coats were brand new, of various sizes, for the ages requested, in addition to $20/- cash donation. Submitted by Jaime LibaqueSt Lawrence MartyrThe St Lawrence Martyr Council 13417 organized the successful distribution of 144 coats (12 cases) for Scarborough children. It has been the largest quantity since 2013 when the Council first embraced this program. This year 2022, we had business sponsorships from MeridianCU, UniforTheUnion, three other local Councils 3296,9143,9494 and partnered with the ACSA Community Center. More than 10 Brother Knights were present for the distribution and local Councillor Thompson was among the guests. We hope to get more Scarborough Councils to join for the future.

Bernard Prevost represented the WW 11 veterans of Niagara and the Knights of Columbus on November 11, 2022, at the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Grimsby. Bernie now 98, is the last surviving WW11 veteran in the Niagara region and the last surviving charter member of Our Lady of the Lake council 4917. Meyer Brother Norbert Oberle of Council 4916 each year has approached schools prior to Halloween to explain what the charity, Canadian Food For Children does and how it operates. He invites the children to consider sharing their trick-or treat treats with poor families around the world. A bucket is provided for each classroom into which treats can be deposited. So to is the need for hats, mitts and scarves, but too often is overlooked. Brother Bruce Mackie (Warden) approached our Executive, informing us of a Knitting Club at Solidarity Towers (where he resides), who knit hats, scarves and mitts year round – asking if our Council could assist in donating some of these items to schools who were in need. Submitted by Gordon Bell Our Lady of the LakeOur Lady of the Lake Grimsby brothers donating Coats for Kids to the Grimsby Benevolent Fund located in Grimsby. Our coats will be provided to children in need in our community. Our brothers volunteer their time on Wednesdays at GBF helping in the food bank. Our council has a long proud relationship with GBF by volunteering, donations and the last several years helping to keep children warm with the Knights Coats for Kids program.

Meyer Council 4916 presented 5 boxes of coats to the Parish Conference.  St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul serves three elementary and one secondary school in the parish. Members of the SVDP group, including Knights who volunteer with the society, laid out the coats for the pickup times.
