//Special Olympics Flag raising Ceremony at City Hall
Submitted by Roy Hagel, Financial Secretary
Leo Council 1130, District # 13

On October 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., the Special Olympics Flag was raised at City Hall in a Special Ceremony.

Our District Deputy Bruce Sutton of District # 14, along with the six Knights of Columbus Councils in Thunder, plus the Father Baxter 4th Degree Assembly showed their support for the Special Olympic Games, Athletes, and Coaches in this Ceremony.

The Knights of Columbus have been deeply connected to the Special Olympics since the Special Olympics was established 50 years ago. Locally, our Knights and Councils have supported our Special Olympics athletes from the very beginning, hosting fundraisers and contributing financially, volunteering, and leading awareness and recognition programs like this event in raising the Special Olympic Flag at City Hall.

The Special Olympics has grown from a modest program serving local athletes to become the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sport.
