Blessed Michael McGivney: Model for 21st Century Priests Wednesday, June 2, 2021 | 2 p.m. EDT Though he lived more than a century ago, Blessed Michael McGivney serves as an example for seminarians in formation today. Sulpician Father Phillip Brown is president and rector of Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, the institution from which Father McGivney completed his studies for the priesthood in 1877. He will share insights about Father McGivney’s life and ministry that inspire young priests and seminarians today and how Saint Mary’s has observed the beatification of its alumnus. Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center: The Cause Begins Wed., April 7, 2021 | 7:00 p.m. EDT Father Michael McGivney died August 14, 1890, at age 38. His cause for sainthood opened more than a century later, December 18, 1997. Dominican Father Gabriel O’Donnell was the initial postulator of the cause and authored the official position supporting sainthood for Father McGivney. Father O’Donnell, who serves now as a vice postulator and director of the McGivney Guild, will recall his research efforts to introduce the cause and reflect on the October 31, 2020, beatification.
