Good Friday
April 3
Good Friday is one of the most solemn and sacred days in the Christian calendar, observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus Christ—His suffering, death, and ultimate sacrifice for the salvation of humanity. It is called “Good” Friday because, through Christ’s sacrifice, humanity is offered the gift of redemption and eternal life.
Key Elements of Good Friday:
- The Passion of Christ
- The Veneration of the Cross
- The Eucharist
- Fasting and Abstinence
- The Solemn Intercessions
Good Friday offers an opportunity to reflect on the example of selfless service modeled by Jesus. The Knights of Columbus often use this time for prayer, to remember their commitment to live out Christ’s teachings in their charitable works and to rededicate themselves to the values of faith, charity, unity, and fraternity.
Will your council have any special services or initiatives for Good Friday this year?
