SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent\, a season of penance\, prayer\, and fasting in preparation for the celebration of Easter. It is observed 46 days before Easter Sunday (40 days of Lent\, excluding Sundays)\, and it holds deep significance in the Catholic Church and many other Christian denominations. \nFor the Knights of Columbus\, Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent provide an opportunity to reflect on the sacrificial nature of our faith and to renew our commitment to the values of faith\, charity\, unity\, and fraternity. It’s a time to deepen our prayer life\, engage in acts of service\, and support our communities\, especially through charitable work that helps those in need. The season of Lent is a chance to focus on the virtue of selflessness and to live out the call to be a servant to others\, just as Christ served us. \nMany councils might choose to begin Lent with a special Ash Wednesday Mass\, a service project\, or community prayer\, reflecting on the meaning of the season and making a commitment to service and personal growth during the 40 days leading up to Easter. \nDo you or your council have any particular traditions or plans for Ash Wednesday or the upcoming Lenten season? \n
